Twelfth Sunday After Pentecost 2020

Within every living being there is a seed which pushes the each being towards its perfection. The rose, the dog, the trout and whatever your imagination can name all have an interior principle urging that being on to its destiny. What is it that insists on growth and resists death? The power comes from the question of the lawyer: “What is the greatest commandment in the law?” The greatest commandment is also the greatest motivator for life itself. “Thou shalt love the Lord, thy God, with thy whole heart, thy whole soul, thy whole mind and thy whole strength.” The second is like the first for thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments the whole law is based.

Today the antithesis of Love is calling upon all beings to hate the One Who has placed within us this power called love. It is claimed that Love is more powerful than death. Satan deals in sin, death and the division of man within himself. The desire of our nature is to live totally surrounded by love. This love originates from the One Who Created us. God’s love never dies and remains within us for as long as we live in His grace. How do we recognize this seed within our souls?

In the first place this seed is recognized by the desire to seek the good and to do that which pleases my God and my neighbor. Goodness by its very nature diffuses itself. In doing so we share in the divine love which seeks to share Itself in our lives. This goodness that attracts us is a transcendental because its activity takes us outside of self and leads us to a deeper understanding of ourselves. By its means we lift ourselves up from our natural existence to the supernatural life of Christ. Our Lord is our greatest good and He has come from Jerusalem on high to heal our wounded human nature.

Through the deceit of the satanic robber we have been beaten and stripped of our supernatural gifts to attain heaven and now “half-dead” we call for the oil of Christ’s anointing to stir our hearts to believe in the “truth” of His Love for us. Through the revealed truth of our Lord we begin to “regain” our infused knowledge. This knowledge urges us to practice the goodness of love toward our neighbor just as we experienced it ourselves through the presence and teaching of our Lord. Truth encourages the development of the seed of supernatural life to grow. Our Lord pays the price with the two coins handed to the Church (inn-keeper) which reveal the Father’s love for the Son and the Son’s love for us.

After that revelation the conviction of our lives leads us to the gift of beauty. The light of truth shines in our hearts and in our eyes. The eyes are the mirror of the soul and the beauty of the heart is express in the goodness offered to my neighbor in need. Beauty is the third transcendental painting the picture of our Life with God. Everything is good, true and beautiful when we have discovered the greatest law in the universe. Let nothing disturb you for all is in God. All bespeaks the love of God for us. All reveals the goodness, the truth and the beauty wrapped up in the divine nature of divine, sacrificial Love.

The seed of this divine life pulsates whenever we hear the truth or when we witness the goodness of God in our neighbor or when the beauty of creation takes our breath away. We are imminent in this mortal body but we are transcendent in the goal of our lives. Long for that which is eternal and the temporal will be healed with a little bit of heaven. Our journey is to return with the Good Shepherd, the Good Samaritan, to the home beyond all earthly homes…heaven. There in God’s kingdom we will find rest for our weary souls. Keep in tune with the goodness in you, the truth that surrounds you and the beauty that attracts you and you will encounter the Immaculate Heart of Mary calling you home.

“Woman, behold your sons.” “Son behold your mother.” In our blessed Mother all the evils in our world will be transformed through the graces flowing from her heart. She has been given to us that we might keep her always in the eyes of our soul. She guides us to the true, the good, the beautiful and will never rest until we have come home to her. Pray the holy rosary and prepare your heart to become pure and innocent in and through the fire in her heart. Let us pray for each other during these days of spiritual battle. Our divine physician is with us and will not allow us to compromise with the world and its nefarious prince. God bless you all,

In the hearts of Jesus, Mary and Joseph,

Fr. Richard Voigt
