“Go, show yourselves to the priests.” Ten lepers were told by the power of the Son of God to follow the order of Moses and present themselves to the priests to corroborate the truth…they were healed. Many stories have been presented to the holy people of God about the power present in the body of Jesus. But only one asks the ones tainted by leprosy to go to the priests.
This action foretells what each of us sinners must do in order to achieve the healing that begets an eternal life.
Today let us consider power which is being exerted everywhere. What types of power are there and how should power be regulated. In the first place there is a theory about power and energy that says there is only so much in this world and each source must be conserved so that we will not run out. Fossil fuels, fracking, solar, wind and sea all can produce a power to energize a home, a city or even a nation. In this approach the mentality is to preserve our fuels, our water or even our wind because we never know if we will run out.
In the second theory of power there is the coach who pushes his athletes to the limit and beyond. The runner passes a certain point and he catches his “second wind” and can go on forever it seems. In this theory energy and power show up in unexpected ways due to the need we have for it. In the crisis of energy in San Francisco, an engineer came forward saying there is an unlimited source of power come in and out of San Francisco daily. Stunned the city council sat and heard the man describe the movement of the bay in which millions of gallons rush in on the high tide and then recede for the low tide. Simply put turbines under the Golden Gate bridge and energy can be harvested non-stop.
Finally, there is a third source of energy and power that few realize and are shocked when they discover it. This source is available to all of us lepers once we are healed of our heresies and come to the full knowledge of our Lord. This source of power is called “Sanctity”. St. Paul could move mountains and numbers of souls with the power of his preaching. St. John Bosco could change the lives of millions of boys through the power of his holy preventive system of education. Hospitals were built from the holiness of Saints; colleges and schools were constructed from the holy hearts of Saints; churches were built to bring holiness into the homes of true Catholics. This is the power that cleansed the lepers and it is the power that changes our lives right now.
Holiness conquers fear of all sickness; holiness casts out the fear of death and the heavy hand of governments seeking to enslave. Holiness separates our souls from the world and seeks the union of our hearts with the heart of Jesus and Mary. Holiness conquers the realm of the pharmaceutical companies; holiness desires the transformation of this world on the action of charity. Holiness does not put on airs nor does it desire to enslave another individual. Holiness opens the heart to gratitude for all that God has done and will do for each of us.
Our problem today is that we seek the economic over the confidence in God. We worry about how many kids we can afford instead of accepting each child as a great gift from God. We would never say our budget allows for only 5 coats and we have 6 kids therefore cut off the head of one child. Our philosophy has been tainted with the errors of modernism which is subject to evolution thus causing doctrine to change with the culture. Our society is calling for a revolution but not the Antifa or BLM model of destruction. Our society wants order, peace and sensible leadership.
Obviously, our hearts are calling out for God. We must lift up the Cross of Christ, fall prostrate upon the ground and thank almighty God for His Love and His healing presence. In His Cross all our problems are resolved. In His Cross our souls are begotten in holiness. Three hundred- and sixty-six times Scripture repeats these words: “Noli timere. (Do not fear). No matter what takes place our leprosy is gone and our hearts in gratitude trust in the One Who has healed us. There is not one day in the year or leap year that is not covered by our Lord’s presence to calm us and to protect us. Only He can call us in death to Himself.
Forget the masks, social distance be hanged, and resists the man-made vaccines that seek to transform you into little slaves for the elite’s pleasure. Turn again with all your hearts to Jesus, Mary and Joseph. In that holy family we will find our peace.
In the hearts of Jesus, Mary and Joseph,
Fr. Voigt
