What More Could He Do for You?
From His descent to his Ascension our Lord mapped out His life with us after the pattern of Humility. Imagine that the Lord who called you into being and loved us so much that He would come from the Father’s side to become incarnate. That action alone would have been more than sufficient to ransom our souls and re-create our spiritual lives in Him. No, it would not suffice for God simply to become a man. Instead, He took upon Himself our weakness, our sinfulness in order to crucify that which offends the Divine Trinity. The Crucifixion ought to be sufficient for God and His immense and eternal love, wouldn’t you think?
No, it would not be enough because love not only forgives but wishes to remain with the beloved. Jesus gave us His Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity in the most Holy Sacrament that He might remain with us til the end of this world. In the Gift of the Eucharist we have the ultimate expression of God’s divine and humble Love for us. This great gift touches three aspects of our human life: the physical, the intellectual and the spiritual.
In the physical order the holy Eucharist is a food and a medicine. As food Jesus transforms our bodies into temples of the Holy Ghost and as we eat His Body and drink His Blood our physical life imperceptibly becomes supernatural. Grace always works with the natural and lifts it to the greater. As food we cannot ask for a better and more satisfying gift. In fact, we have saints that have lived for years simply on this supernatural food, a manna from heaven. This manna becomes a medicine for our souls whereby the domination of sin becomes obliterated through the reception of this holy sacrament. The body is healed because the soul becomes one with the Divine Physician. Not even a virus can stand before the healing power of this sacrament.
In the intellectual order this sacrament is both the light that conquers the darkness of the mind and a burning heat which excites the person to follow the path of the Savior. The intellect responds and seeks out the Truth. Prior to the reception of this sacrament, we listen to the Word of Jesus which reveals the will of God for us. The mind hears and grasps the meaning of the beatitudes and moves the heart to imitate the One who is always present in the sacrifice of the holy mass. The light of the Word is united with the Work of the Word and thus reveals the person of Jesus, the Light of the world. Our great privilege is to share this light with those around us. Our sharing is the great act of love which seeks the eternal salvation of all souls.
Finally, the Holy Eucharist increases the soul’s desire to be united with the One who has loved us so deeply that He remains with us. Out of the abundance of His Love our souls are set aflame with love of the Lord. We ask ourselves and others: “What more could He do for us?” The pattern of humility He walked is the path that He encourages our souls to follow. Through confession of our sins we purify our hearts to receive this most Blessed Sacrament. In fact, we will carry the Lord with us on our procession through this world. There is nothing more important than that we follow our Lord back to the feet of the Father. Through this holy sacrament we can unite with all the angels, the saints and our Blessed Mother to give the Holy Trinity the glory due.
In times past the most holy Eucharist was the daily devotion of the Catholics. A daily mass attendee was a privilege and a promise to those good souls. It was a privilege to be present at the foot of Calvary to share the act of redemption and to gain graces for poor sinners who did not recognize their need for a savior. Men and women would pray the holy rosary in meditation of the mysteries present upon the altar. The daily mass settle the souls of the Catholic and lead them through their daily life with a sense of calmness and purpose. We were to share in the salvation promised us by offering inconveniences and irritations to the Lord for the salvation of a soul in need.
Today the daily mass is available to the few that leave all else to be with our Lord. Usually, business and family and other concerns take precedence. Consequently, only a handful of souls find the daily mass and the power of the holy Eucharist. The saints have told us the sure path to salvation comes from frequenting the holy sacraments of Confession and holy Communion. This is augmented by the visits to the Blessed Sacrament, praying the most holy rosary, use of the sacramentals, etc.
I can only invite each of you to send your guardian angel to be with me as I offer this sacrament daily. Pray the holy rosary now more than ever before and receive our Lord in the spiritual communion on a daily basis. Let’s keep united in this way for despite the demonic manifestations in this world of ours…Greater is He Who is in thee, than he who is in the world. Love the Holy Eucharist and our Lady will watch over and guide you.
In the hearts of Jesus, Mary and Joseph,
