We have the Truth but Where is our Zeal?
After our sacrifices of 40 days in Lent we are to rejoice in 50 days of new life and the grace of being re-created through the Passion and Death of our Lord. In the Acts of the Apostles we learn that the Apostles and our Blessed Mother remain in prayer preparation for the most important moment of the new Church. The Mystical Body is about to be born into action. As our Lord promised so it happened that the room was filled with a strong wind and tongues as of fire descended upon all that were there.
The first effect upon all those present was the prompting of the Holy Ghost to proclaim the great works of God. Language is quite special with God. His Word was made Flesh and now the tongues of fire caused a burning in the hearts of the faithful. We know that small minds speak about people. It is always easy to see and comment on the faults of those around us whether they be family, friends, associates or our boss. It is easy to criticize and so the small mind expresses itself. Mediocre minds speak about things and events. These minds are taken up with the excitement of a super bow or the competition of March Madness or a horse competition and maybe even the weather. Things and events are morally neutral and the average mind rests on these because they cause no controversy. But what about great minds; what do these speak about?
Great minds speak of ideals. The Holy Ghost burns within the heart of the true apostle and encourages those they meet to come to the freedom of the truth. Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Yet more than all this Jesus is the physical expression of the Divine Love of the Holy Trinity. To speak of life’s meaning and to go beyond this world into the eternal life is a topic that tests our convictions. To speak as Jesus spoke; to live as He lived and to love as He loved draws us into a different dimension. Great minds penetrate the meaning of Pentecost and in the act of recreating our souls our Lord lifts us from this temporal world to that which will remain forever.
There is no doubt that Truth is found within the teaching of the apostles, the evangelists, the magisterium, our tradition. We have the truth but what happened to our zeal. The tongues of fire illuminate the minds of the faithful but they should also ignite their hearts. It seems as though the missionary zeal of the Mystical Body has been erased by Vatican II’s attitude that we need not proselytize. All the faith visions out there on the historical front can lead a soul to the kingdom of God.
This is heresy plain and simple. There is but one Church, one Mystical Body, which can lead souls to the kingdom of God. To be baptized and confirmed in this one faith is a most precious gift. It can never be taken for granted and it cannot be compromised for by that very act darkness comes into the soul. The Light of truth demands the fire of love in order to remain faithful to the Master.
With the compromises made at Vatican II and now fostered by those in powerful positions, the Pentecost of old is being replaced by the Masonic mind of tolerance for all opinions. To follow this paradigm is to force the true believer into small pockets of resistance. It must be done to keep the union of light (truth) and love. How we need to restore the fire through greater devotion to the Blessed Mother. She is the touchstone of our spiritual renewal. We must rededicate ourselves to the love of the Most Holy Eucharist. This sacrament brooks no irreverence. Daily we ought to examine our consciences concerning our love for the Holy Trinity and how we express that love for our neighbor.
Our faith is a seamless garment clothing the soul with the protection of its truth and its consuming fire. Zeal must return for our world needs the soul of the Catholic faith to return man to his destiny. To return one day and be united to the Beatific Vision will transform all the troubles of this world to become our jewels of virtue in God’s kingdom. In that kingdom we will have wished that we had suffered more for our Lord. Fear no man and place your heart into the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Providence is still in charge and will reign in Satan when the time is ripe.
God bless you all on this great feast of the Holy Ghost, the Spouse of the Blessed Ever Virgin Mary.
In the Hearts of Jesus, Mary and Joseph,
Fr. Richard Voigt, S.D.B.
