Fifth Sunday After Pentecost 2020

Fr. Occhio challenged our philosophy class on the question of perfect justice and can it be achieved in this world? While we exist in this sinful and fallen world there will never be any perfect justice. This fallen earth is infested with the effects of our original sin and so original justice is beyond our grasp. Then what can we expect from this world and our society? We can hope for three things: 1) a community that reflects some justice, 2) a personal desire to be just in dealing with God and neighbor and 3) a longing for the kingdom of God which presents us with perfect justice.

Why is our America so attractive to the world beyond our borders? It is based upon the virtue of Justice which flows from the theological virtue of Charity. You cannot have a just society if there is no love of God and one’s neighbor. The two commandments sum up the justice needed to make progress in a family and a society. To foster this justice we elect officials to apply the law of love to each situation that comes up in living together. We hire a police force to ensure that our laws are kept and order is upheld. Without this foundation the society would quickly become anarchic. In the socialist mindset the principle of order is “Might makes Right.” It is in stark contradiction to the Christian formation in virtue.

Societies are made up of individuals who possess the power to reason. This gift of God empowers each of us to know the good and to choose the good. This conscience is the very voice of God leading us to give to Him what is due to Him…Obedience. In His will is our peace and outside of His Will is disorder, disobedience, death and destruction. In other words, we have chosen to blind ourselves to His will and follow Satan who said: “Non serviam.” We will not serve the Truth; we will not give to each their due; instead we want everyone to do our bidding. Emotions take over our reason and sensuality reigns over our desires. We seek not holiness but worldly power and pleasure.

In the Aquarian calendar we are living in the age of the fish swimming backward. In other words justice is forgotten and a “gimme spirit” reigns supreme. The Christian order is begin erased by the memory of man. Man has come of age and God becomes a plaything for the modern man. Do we like what we see happening in our major cities? Is this mob mentality the prophecy of Fatima coming to haunt us with the real threat of militant communism crushing the Catholics? There can be no justice in a FEMA camp only persecution because one does not wish to conform to the dictates of the New World Order.

Finally, the death of our society and the reign of the anti-Christ forces us to seek the kingdom of God in which all the injustices of man are righted by the God Who called us to forgive as we have been forgiven. He has shown us how to pray for our persecutors and long for their conversion. They may think that are doing God a service by killing us (cfr. Saul prior to his conversion). Yes, it will be ugly, unjust, bitter but it will cause us to fall before the Blessed Mother and plead for the justice that comes when we enter the particular judgement of our lives. We must be prepared mentally, physically, emotionally and psychologically to crush our anger and direct it toward hating sin but not the sinner. Praying with our fingers and our toes the holy rosary that we might fulfill our duties to God and neighbor.

In the moment of death whether it be by a martyrdom of intensity or a martyrdom of duration we must unite our suffering with the Cross of our Lord and know that in the end He will support us. No covid virus, no hatred of a mob, no suffering in this world will compare with the reward of Love awaiting us who will persevere in the faith. In this is justice perfected. Pray much, reflect on the passion of our Lord and turn to our Mother for the needed support to overcome our weak and fallen human nature.

In the hearts of Jesus, Mary and Joseph,

Fr. Voigt
