Pentecost Sunday 2016 – John 14: 23-31

The Spirit does not Accuse but rather Advocates.

Pentecost Sunday“If anyone loves Me he will keep my Word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and will make our abode with him.” (Jn. XIV. 23)  A premise is offered by the Son of God and this premise yields a conclusion that no one can doubt. Do you want to begin living in heaven now?  Then read and reflect daily upon the Word of God, the holy Gospels and the canonical writings of the New Testament. There is no option here but rather the clear conclusion from a Divine Premise.

When Dante wrote his inspired “Paradiso” the refrain of every soul, in whatever portion of heaven they find themselves, runs true:  “In His Will is our peace.”  Every word that comes forth from the mouth of God leads the true soul to accept the Providence of God as most worthy to be obeyed. Any problem that St. Therese experienced caused her to turn to the Word of God and keep reading until she found the answer that lifted her heart to a deeper love of the majesty of God.

In the divine will every soul will find the peace it desires. Why? Because we leave our own warped wills behind and enter into the eternal wisdom of the One who put it all together. Over and over again in the holy text we learn that “Obedience is better than sacrifice.”  Obedience to the will of God is the safest and most sure path that leads to eternal happiness. This obedience is founded upon the human power to reason. Reason leads the soul to the truth which infiltrates everything that takes place in this created world of ours. The deeper the scientist probes his findings the more his reason marvels at the truth revealed.

On Pentecost the apostles were huddled together and the Mother of Jesus was there. A strong wind began to shake the place in which they were hiding and tongues as of fire appeared over their heads. They all began to speak in such a way that it unified all the Jews from various places. Their words were words of praise for the glorious works of God. The words of the Holy Ghost lifted up all that heard them and made them realize that the Son of God was crucified in ignorance but now one must yield to the truth of the Divine Nature in a human nature and hold onto His Eternal Word. There is no word of accusation but only an Advocate pleading for God’s Love to transform the hearts of all men.

It is the attitude of advocacy that becomes the touchstone of true Catholic personalities. If there is a constant accusation of our brothers or sisters can there be the presence of the Holy Ghost?  If one fails to keep the word of God, is he then an abode of the presence of God?  St. John answers clearly:  ” He that loveth not, keepeth not my words.”  Whose abode is created by denying the word of God….only satan’s. Today we live in a world of accusers. People lie as if there is no truth. People cheat and steal with no thought of recompense and reparation. Sin is sickness and not a moral failing that must be corrected. Foul language is common in the workplace of men. Immoral life styles are accepted by one and all but not by the word of God. There is only one conclusion to all that we are experiencing–we live in a demonic age. The roaring lion is rushing about the world seeking someone to devour.

The Holy Spirit offers us the solution to all our worries and fears. Trust in the word of God and live by it. Love God’s holy will and keep the direct will of God by loving the Ten Commandments. Do not allow a day to pass in which you carry a mortal sin within your soul. Money is not God and silver and gold do not speak as God speaks. Souls that seek gold and silver produce hearts that are as hard of these precious metals. Instead beg of the Holy Ghost a heart in union with the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Consecrate yourself to this heart and you will have accomplished a great work in your life and the life of the world. For if a person becomes a saint by loving the will of God then that person drags by his/her example all the souls that surround him/her. Saints beget saints; devils beget devils.

Keep the Word of God in your hearts in the manner of our Blessed Mother and through perception of the truth within the birth of Christ will take place in your words, thoughts and deeds. Today we need the saints to lead us all to the kingdom of God.

In the hearts of Jesus, Mary and Joseph,

Fr. Richard Voigt
