When you approach your death what do you think will happen? This is the questionI asked my brother because he is ailing and bored with life. He answered with the typical modernist’s mind “Everything ends.” There is no heaven; there is no hell. This is the modern man who has entertained himself and never cared much for the soul within the now feeble body. The supernatural aspect of man is totally omitted and only the natural remains and it is boring. But God has a different vision concerning the human being created in His Own Image.
Now God does not possess a body except for the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity Who is the eternal Bridegroom for Whom the Father prepared an eternal banquet. The Father has invited the Jew and then the Gentile to feast at this supernatural banquet but what is the attitude today. Let us investigate the hidden meaning of the parable and discover what is most important in this life we have received.
Notice in the first place that every sacrament deals with the natural as the sound board to understand the supernatural. In Baptism the nature of water is to refresh and cleanse. We are refreshed in a new nature which is eternal and we are washed clean of the original sin that hampers our spiritual life. In Holy Communion the nature of bread and wine are transubstantiated into the body and blood, soul and divinity of Christ. In each sacrament the natural supports and finds fulfillment in the supernatural. It would stand to reason that our human life and experiences are all meant to support that which is eternal. It is also reasonable to say that that which is eternal outweighs the temporal. Our temporal existence in this world is nothing more than a period of testing. Will we put on the wedding garment required to attend the marriage?
In preparation for the banquet, the Father has sent out his messengers (the prophets) to call those who were invited to come to the feast. Their response was negative because their worldly concerns were more important than the supernatural event. They would not listen to the prophets, nor would they listen to the apostles whom they would murder. The Word was prepared for them to know the truth about this temporal existence but they would put worldly concerns over the heavenly invitation. This secularism is overflowing in this world of ours. We do not recognize the time of our visitation. Our prayer life has dried up; our concern for our neighbor is non-existent and we do not make the sacrifices necessary to save souls.
As the Israelites cared more for their businesses and farms so today our comfort and conveniences attract us more than praying for the conversion of this world. Our Lady has shown us that the power of the holy rosary can work the miracle of conversion in our Pope Francis. We pray that he might recognize the supernatural power he has been given to unite this world through the collegial consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. What power, what a privilege and what a shame if he does not heed the voice of history. The hour is getting late and soon the blood of millions will be spilled upon this earth all because our Popes failed to obey the will of the Father. We fail to put on the wedding garment. We fail to answer the Father’s call to come to the banquet He has prepared for His Son.
Yes, it the supernatural spirit that must come back to assess the meaning of the wedding garment that each of us must put on in order to remain with the holy Trinity forever. What is that mystical garment? St. John tells that we have all sinned and fallen short of the goodness of God. He also states that God is faithful and will forgive us if we will but turn to Him. Put aside the desire for pleasure and take on the yolk of mortification. Put off the will to power and humble thyself. Discard the old man and put on the new man created in knowledge and truth. What then is the garment that this sinner must put on? It is the garment of charity, sacrificial love and it comes to us through the forgiveness of our sinful nature.
Those who fail to understand the test of our world fail also to learn to love all others for the sake of God, our Father. These souls never put on the garment of love because their lives were focused on themselves. Oh, how sad it is to deal with souls that want no pain, no sacrifice, no love of neighbor. They fail to put on the garment of love and find themselves wailing and gnashing their teeth because they could have saved their souls. They could have put on the garment of love so easily. Many souls are falling into hell because they have no one to love them into heaven. Let us heed the words of Our Lady and seek to pray more and more rosaries for the salvation of these poor sinners.
In the hearts of Jesus, Mary and Joseph,
Fr. Richard Voigt
