Fifteenth Sunday After Pentecost 2020

In every aspect of life there is a master. The masters of the monetary system seek to interpret everyone and everything according to the accounting principle. Women want to be masters of the child within their wombs. Presidents want to be the masters of their political underlings. It seems as though everyone wants to be master over something. Pride of life continues to spread like wildfire among the citizens of this world and then one comes into this world created by Him and He does not seek to be the master but rather the servant. Why is that?

In the first place, our Lord is not subject to the fall but rather possesses a nature which is untainted by sin. Therefore, He loves in a divine, sacrificial manner that we can only hope to imitate. Perhaps by the grace of God we will learn before our death how we might serve others rather than dominate them.

Secondly, our Lord possesses an infinite love encompassing the Father and the Holy Ghost which enables Him to uniquely care to serve every soul that the Father calls into existence. This infinite Love calls us into existence; presents us with the pleasure of true love and marks us with the sign of divine favor. Our souls can only love a God Who is love because we have drawn our existence from Him and our happiness rests in Him and in no other. You cannot serve God and mammon. You will either grow in love or fall into a deceived desire for evil. Mammon can only draw the soul to sin.

Thirdly, our souls know when they are at peace. Serving and obeying the One Who loves us unconditionally places us in a place of peace. We remain in Him as He is in the Father and the Holy Ghost. This divine indwelling fosters our gratitude for every grace that comes to us. Our Lord clothes us in Baptism with the beauty of grace. He feeds us with the Bread of eternal life. He prepares us to drink of the chalice of His Precious Blood through which we have been purchased for the Father.

To serve the One Who is constantly caring for us seems so natural that it becomes super-natural before our life is finished. Like the lily of the field our soul’s beauty trumpets our desire to be with Him. Like the rose our soul is opened gently and sweetly through every experience of life. We cannot help but yield our rebellious nature to One who suffered and died for love of us. Consider the soul that opts to serve the mammon of iniquity.

These souls are characterized by an agitated spirit which seeks to glean something from the material goods of this world. Like Richard Rich in the Man for all Seasons we trade an eternal good for a temporal prize. Grabbing at a pot of gold doesn’t bring us happiness but it does bring us into a debt to the author of all mammon. Satan is quite satisfied to offer souls the prize they desire…power, prestige, pleasure. Satan is well aware of the fallen tendencies of man and as a master craftsman he markets that which attracts us. Like fish we take the bait only to find we are caught with no escape. Then Satan brings on the despair, the dullness of life, the depression that drives us to drink.

Enter now the United States of 2020 and do we see the mammon of iniquity at work among our fellow citizens. Deception has taken place and communism and its tactics seek to destroy both the soul and body of those who fall under its tyranny. You cannot serve God and mammon. Serving mammon means momentary power, pleasure and privilege but an eternity of self-hatred. How sad eternity will be if we failed to serve the God Who loves us greater than we can love ourselves. He wants the best for us which is a goodness that we cannot imagine.

With our Lady’s birthday coming up, let us re-commit ourselves to the greatest Master any soul could possibly find in this universe. He laid down His Life and defined His love for us by that sacrifice. Let us imitate our Lady in loving Him in return. Call upon our Mother to guide in this wonderful expression of divine love. In His Love we will become the saints this America of 2020 needs. Pray the rosary for the consecration of Russia to the Immaculate heart of Mary.

In the hearts of Jesus, Mary and Joseph,
