The Wedding at Cana
The Act of Rebonding.
Through the deceit of Eve the devil was able to incorporate death into the plan of God to restore us to His Intimate Love. The first woman (guvai)lost our supernatural gifts of infused knowledge, immortality and passibility. Now Our Blessed Mother takes on the role of the new Eve and beckons the Son of God, the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity, to restore the joy to human life for we have no more wine.
Wine is the blood of the grape and will come to be the Blood of the precious Lamb of God. The wine of the old testament was finished; the law was no longer that which would govern man but now the order of grace was about to break into man’s experience. She who was “full of grace” was calling upon the Source to pour out the new wine in abundance for “they have no more wine.” Every nuptial needs the joy of a fresh wine and to run out would be an outrage for the ones who had come to celebrate. No more wine in a country known for its choice wine.
Now the new Eve knows the needs of her children and calls upon the divine Son to begin His true purpose upon this world: to shed His Blood. Without the shedding of His Blood the bond broken by Eve would never be repaired. This means that there would be no re-liga (no rebonding). This act of God which offers to the believer the Blood of the New Testament is the act of religion. Christ will pour out His Blood for the life of the world and it would continue to flow throughout the centuries.
You and I are the beneficiaries of this act of religion. Catholics have forgotten that this act is the central moment of our faith. This dogma that Jesus has filled the ceremonial jars with an abundance of fresh delicious wine calls the Catholic to reverence the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. In this precious sacrifice the salvation and the sanctification of the believer takes place. How we must prepare ourselves for this ongoing and eternal act of God. Yet we do not “do what Jesus tells us.” Instead we become “used to” His great act of love. We will not pay the price of time preparation because we fail to recognize the importance of this act for the salvation of others.
In other words, God has placed souls at our fingertips and they are ready to be saved by our witnessing the eternal sacrifice of the Son. “Do this in memory of Me.” It is a command of love that draws out our heart to care for the souls God wishes to save by my presence. With all the confusion of this era daily mass has gone by the wayside. The legitimate Mass of the Angels is shunned by the novus ordo comfort and convenient Catholic while those who understand must travel miles for the true and holy Mass. They have no more wine is just as true today as it was in Cana of Galilee.
Today turn to our mother, the new Eve, and beg, plead and cry for the return of the dogma of our faith. Without the shedding of Her Son’s blood there would be no hope of heaven. With it there is every possibility that we will achieve eternal life. “Unless you eat my Body and drink my Blood you will have no eternal life in you.”
Brothers and Sisters, try as best you can to attend Holy Mass daily. If not the true mass, then take out that prayer book and spend some time in a spiritual communion each day. We must keep in union with our Lord to be filled more and more with His Life. The joy of the overflowing jugs must come to enliven us again with hope for heaven is but a breath away.
In the hearts of Jesus, Mary and Joseph,
Fr. Richard Voigt
